The Beast of Buchan

Since the 1930s, Aberdeenshire has been haunted by reports of a phantom cat the size of a calf.

The "Beast of Buchan" remains one of the most credible modern cryptid phenomena in the British Isles. Backed by a consistent pattern of livestock predation and multiple eyewitness accounts, this creature has haunted Aberdeenshire since the 1930s.

  • Visual characteristics: Glossy black coat, approximately 1.2m in length.

Field reports from the 1990s describe a creature with eyes that "glowed with a piercing green hue" in the dark. Farmers routinely reported sheep killed with surgical precision—punctures to the jugular being characteristic of large felines. Despite extensive camera trap deployments, the Beast remains elusive, leaving only footprints and atypical black fur.
